An older Irishman was a regular at a local pub. He would always come in at 6 after work every day and order three beers, one for himself and two for friends who would be waiting outside. One spring day, the Irishman walked into the pub and sat down heavily. He ordered only two beers. Many of the regulars at the bar took notice. They all wondered what had happened. The bartender finally aske, "Why only two beers? Has something happened? Did someone die?" Immediatly the people started to console the Irishman. But he shook them off and eventually said, "No, no one died. I just gave alcohol up for lent."
